What is a WhatsApp QR code?
A WhatsApp QR code is a QR code that stores a wa.me link. When someone scans it, WhatsApp opens a chat with your number. If you added a pre-filled message, that text is already in their typing box. They can change it, and nothing is sent until they tap send.
The generator builds the link for you: https://wa.me/, then your country code and number as digits only, then ?text= and your message encoded for the web. For a Singapore number and the message Hi, I'd like to order for collection, that is https://wa.me/6591234567?text=Hi%2C%20I'd%20like%20to%20order%20for%20collection. The finished link shows under the message box, so you can check it before you download.
It works with WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business numbers alike. The tool does not check that a number is on WhatsApp, so scan your own code once before you print a batch.
This is a static QR code. What it opens is stored in the image itself, so there is no redirect, no scan count and no way to change it after printing. To change it, make and print a new code. It does not create PayNow or SGQR payment codes.
How to make a WhatsApp QR code with a message
- Pick the country code. Singapore (+65) is selected first. Choose another country from the list if your number is registered elsewhere.
- Enter your WhatsApp number. Leave out the country code and any leading zero. For a Singapore mobile that is just the eight digits, such as 9123 4567. Spaces and hyphens are fine.
- Write the pre-filled message. Optional, up to 120 characters. Say what the customer wants, such as "Hi, I'd like to book a table". The wa.me link appears under the box as you type.
- Add your logo and colours. Upload a PNG, JPEG or WebP for the centre, pick a dark code colour on a light background and wait for Scan check passed.
- Download and test. Choose PNG, SVG or JPEG, then scan the file with your phone at the size you plan to print.
Where a WhatsApp QR code earns its place
- Hawker stalls and home bakeries. Put it on the stall sign or the box sticker with "Hi! I'd like to order for collection" so regulars can order ahead.
- Cafe and restaurant tables. Use "Hi, I'd like to book a table for" and let guests finish the sentence with the date and number of people.
- Counters and QR stands. Customers with a question for later can start the chat before they leave. Pair it with your Google review link on a stand.
- Name cards and flyers. For agents, contractors and tutors: "Hi, I got your card. Can I get a quote for" turns a card into a conversation.
- Tuition centres and classes. "Hi, I'd like to book a trial class" on posters and letters home saves parents hunting for a number.
- Packaging and delivery slips. A reorder message such as "Hi! I'd like to reorder" on the bag brings customers straight back to your chat.
Want to know which poster works? Give each placement its own message, such as "Hi, from the Tampines flyer" and "Hi, from the counter". The code cannot count scans, but the first line of each chat tells you where it came from.
Ways to get a WhatsApp message from print
| Option | What the customer does | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Printed number | Saves your number, opens WhatsApp, finds you and types a message | The slowest route, and a mistyped digit loses the chat |
| QR code, no message | Scans, and an empty chat with you opens | Quick, but they still have to think of what to write |
| QR code with a pre-filled message | Scans, sees your message ready and taps send | The fastest start, and the message can say where they found you |
| NFC tile on a stand | Taps their phone on the stand, and the same chat opens | Needs an NFC phone, so keep a QR code beside it |
Print it, or put it on a stand
The download is yours to use anywhere: menus, flyers, stickers and signs. For a counter, the generator can carry the same artwork into a 3D-printed QR stand, or see the Tap Bar QR, which puts a QR panel beside NFC tiles. Ordering is optional. To print your own stand, try QR Stand Maker.

WhatsApp QR code FAQ
How do I make a WhatsApp QR code with a pre-filled message?
Choose the country code, enter your WhatsApp number without the country code or a leading zero, and type a message of up to 120 characters. The generator builds a wa.me link, puts it in a QR code and checks that the code scans. Then download PNG, SVG or JPEG.
What is the wa.me link format?
https://wa.me/ followed by the full number in international format as digits only: country code, then number, with no plus sign, spaces, brackets or leading zero. A message is added as ?text= and the message encoded for the web, so spaces become %20 and a comma becomes %2C. For example: https://wa.me/6591234567?text=Hi!%20I%20saw%20your%20flyer.
How long can the pre-filled message be?
Up to 120 characters in this tool, and the whole link must fit in 600 bytes. Emoji and scripts such as Chinese take several bytes each once encoded, so a long message full of them may be refused. Shorter messages also make a simpler code that scans more easily from further away.
Does the message send automatically?
No. Scanning only opens the chat with your text in the typing box. The customer can edit it, and nothing is sent until they tap send.
Should I include +65 or the leading zero?
Choose +65 (or your country) from the country code list and type the rest of the number. Do not type the plus sign, the country code again or a local leading zero in the number box. The tool rejects a number that starts with 0 or +.
Does it work with WhatsApp Business?
Yes. The wa.me link opens a chat with any number registered on WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business. The generator cannot check that a number is registered, so scan your own code before printing.
What if the person scanning does not have WhatsApp?
The wa.me link opens in their browser on WhatsApp's own page, which offers to open the app or get it. People with WhatsApp installed go straight to the chat.
Can I change the number or message after printing?
No. This is a static code, so the number and message are stored in the image. There is no redirect to edit later. Make and print a new code when they change.
Can I track how many people scanned my WhatsApp QR code?
Not with this tool. There are no scan analytics. A simple workaround is a different pre-filled message for each poster or flyer, so the chats tell you which one worked.
Can I add my logo to a WhatsApp QR code?
Yes. Upload a PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 2 MB and choose Small, Medium or Large. High error correction stays on, and the download stays locked until the finished design, logo included, passes a scan check.
Can I put my WhatsApp QR code on a stand?
Yes, if you want to. Carry the artwork to a 3D-printed QR Stand, or to a Tap Bar NFC stand where the first NFC tile opens the same WhatsApp chat. Ordering is optional, and the free download works on its own.
Is it really free, with no sign-up?
Yes. Make the code and download PNG, SVG or JPEG without an account, an email address or a purchase. There is no watermark, and the code does not expire because nothing sits between the scan and your content.
Is anything I type uploaded?
No. The code and your logo are made in your browser. Your edits stay in this browser tab so a reload or a trip to a stand page does not lose them. Nothing is sent to a QR server.
