What is a text QR code?
A text QR code stores plain text in the pattern itself. Scanning it shows the words on screen. There is no website behind it, so it works without an internet connection and keeps working for as long as the print lasts.
This generator takes up to 1,200 bytes, which is roughly 1,200 letters in English. Chinese characters and emoji use more bytes each. Shorter text makes a simpler code, so keep it to a few lines if you print small.
This is a static QR code. What it opens is stored in the image itself, so there is no redirect, no scan count and no way to change it after printing. To change it, make and print a new code. It does not create PayNow or SGQR payment codes.
How to make a text QR code
- Type your text. Write the note, instructions or code. Line breaks are kept, although each scanner app lays them out its own way.
- Keep it short. A few lines scans more easily than a page. If the tool says the content is too dense, trim it.
- Add your logo and colours. Upload a logo for the centre if you like, keep a dark code on a light background and wait for Scan check passed.
- Download and test. Download PNG, SVG or JPEG and scan it with a phone to read it back.
Ideas for a text QR code
- Care and assembly instructions. A few lines on a label or 3D-printed part, readable without a website.
- Treasure hunts and escape games. Hide the next clue in a code that works offline.
- Gift messages. A short note on a tag or card that the recipient scans to read.
- Stock and equipment labels. Serial numbers, batch details or a reminder of where the item belongs.
- Exhibits and displays. A short description for places with weak mobile signal.
- Classroom activities. Questions or answers students scan at their own pace.
Pasting a web address? Use the Website type instead. It checks the link and phones open it straight away, while a link inside a text code depends on the scanner app.
Text or website?
| QR code | What the phone shows | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Text | Your words on screen, even offline | The message is short and will not change |
| Website | A web page in the browser | You need pictures, more text or something you can update on the page |
Print it, or put it on a stand
The download is yours to use anywhere: menus, flyers, stickers and signs. For a counter, the generator can carry the same artwork into a 3D-printed QR stand, or see the Tap Bar QR, which puts a QR panel beside NFC tiles. Ordering is optional. To print your own stand, try QR Stand Maker.

Text QR code FAQ
How much text can a QR code hold here?
Up to 1,200 bytes of UTF-8 text, which is about 1,200 English letters. Chinese characters use three bytes each and many emoji use four, so fewer fit. Shorter text makes a code that scans more easily.
Does a text QR code need the internet?
No. The text is inside the code, so the phone reads it without a connection.
What happens when someone scans it?
Most camera and scanner apps show the text and let the person copy it. Some also offer a web search. The exact screen depends on the phone.
Can I use Chinese, emoji or other languages?
Yes. Any UTF-8 text works. Those characters take more bytes, so the limit arrives sooner.
Can I edit the text after printing?
No. This is a static code with the text stored in the image. Make and print a new code to change it.
Can I add my logo to a text QR code?
Yes. Upload a PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 2 MB, choose Small, Medium or Large, and download once the finished design passes the scan check.
Is it really free, with no sign-up?
Yes. Make the code and download PNG, SVG or JPEG without an account, an email address or a purchase. There is no watermark, and the code does not expire because nothing sits between the scan and your content.
Is anything I type uploaded?
No. The code and your logo are made in your browser. Your edits stay in this browser tab so a reload or a trip to a stand page does not lose them. Nothing is sent to a QR server.
