What is a Wi-Fi QR code?
A Wi-Fi QR code holds your network name, security type and password in a standard format that starts with WIFI:. Most recent iPhones and Android phones read it with the built-in camera and show a prompt to join the network, so nobody has to type a long password.
The password is stored in the code as plain text. Anyone who scans it, or reads the image file, can see it. For a shop, cafe or rental, put the code on a guest network rather than the one your till or office runs on.
This is a static QR code. What it opens is stored in the image itself, so there is no redirect, no scan count and no way to change it after printing. To change it, make and print a new code. It does not create PayNow or SGQR payment codes.
How to make a Wi-Fi QR code
- Enter the network name. Type the SSID exactly as your phone lists it, including capital letters and spaces.
- Choose the security. WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 Personal covers most home and shop routers. Choose WEP only for very old equipment, or Open network if there is no password.
- Enter the password. Type the Wi-Fi password. Tick Hidden network only if your router does not broadcast its name.
- Add your logo and colours. Upload a logo for the centre if you like, keep a dark code on a light background and wait for Scan check passed.
- Download and test. Download PNG, SVG or JPEG. Test with a phone that has forgotten the network, so you know it really joins.
Where guests look for the Wi-Fi
- Cafe and restaurant tables. A small card or table stand saves staff answering the same question all day.
- Homestays, guest rooms and rentals. Frame it by the door or on the welcome sheet, next to the house rules.
- Offices and meeting rooms. Visitors join the guest network without asking reception for the password.
- Clinics, salons and waiting areas. People waiting can get online without a sign behind the counter.
- Workshops, classes and events. Put it on the first slide or the welcome table so everyone is online before you start.
- At home. A code on the fridge for visiting family and friends, so nobody reads the router sticker aloud.
Changed the Wi-Fi password? The old code stops working, because the password is inside it. Make and print a new code the same day.
Which security option to choose
| Option | Choose it when | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 Personal | Your network has a password, as almost every router does | The usual choice for home, shop and guest routers |
| WEP | Your router is old and only offers WEP | WEP is weak; upgrade the router if you can |
| Open network | There is no password | Anyone nearby can join, with or without the code |
| Enterprise (username and password) | Your network asks each person to sign in | Not supported by this generator |
Print it, or put it on a stand
The download is yours to use anywhere: menus, flyers, stickers and signs. For a counter, the generator can carry the same artwork into a 3D-printed QR stand, or see the Tap Bar QR, which puts a QR panel beside NFC tiles. Ordering is optional. To print your own stand, try QR Stand Maker.

Wi-Fi QR code FAQ
How does a Wi-Fi QR code work?
It stores the network name, security type and password in the standard WIFI: format. A phone camera that understands it offers to join the network, so the guest does not type anything.
Which phones can scan a Wi-Fi QR code?
Most recent iPhones and Android phones can join from the built-in camera app. Some older phones need a QR scanner app. Test your printed code with the phones your guests are likely to carry.
Is my Wi-Fi password safe?
The code is made in your browser and the password is not sent to us. But the password is inside the QR code as plain text, so anyone who scans it or has the image can read it. Use a guest network for public places.
What happens when I change the Wi-Fi password?
The old code stops working because it still holds the old password. This is a static code with no redirect, so make and print a new one.
Does it work with hidden networks?
Yes. Tick Hidden network so the phone knows to look for a network that does not broadcast its name. Enter the name exactly.
Can I use special characters in the network name or password?
Yes. Semicolons, commas, colons, quotes and backslashes are escaped for you, as the Wi-Fi QR format requires.
Does it support WPA3 or enterprise Wi-Fi?
WPA3 Personal is covered by the WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 Personal option. Enterprise networks that ask for a username, such as many company and university networks, are not supported.
Can I add my logo to a Wi-Fi QR code?
Yes. Upload a PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 2 MB, choose Small, Medium or Large, and download once the finished design passes the scan check.
Is it really free, with no sign-up?
Yes. Make the code and download PNG, SVG or JPEG without an account, an email address or a purchase. There is no watermark, and the code does not expire because nothing sits between the scan and your content.
Is anything I type uploaded?
No. The code and your logo are made in your browser. Your edits stay in this browser tab so a reload or a trip to a stand page does not lose them. Nothing is sent to a QR server.
